It was late, and Justin was driving down a narrow country road. A chill ran down his spine, as he passes through the wooded area. He watches the road closely, trying not to make a wrong turn. He swerves, because a frantic woman comes into his view. He slams on his breaks, and breathes hard, as his heart races. His eyes are wide open, and hands are shaking, as he rolls down the window.
She appears hurt, and trembling. Her eyes are teary. She has a few scrapes on her forehead, nothing to serious looking, to the eye. Her hair is messy do to the accident, she had encountered.
"Will you help me?" My husband and baby are still in the car." Sweat pours off her face, as she speaks breathlessly to him.
"Yes, I’ll help. Lead me to the accident and I’ll call the cops, and inform them of the incident."
Justin follows the woman to the accident site. He can tell that this was more then just a minor accident. Justin hands the woman the cell phone, and asks her to call the authorities, as he goes to find the baby. He rushes to the car to search for the baby. He finds the baby, in the father’s arms, and takes it out. The father is far gone, as he tries to feel for a pulse, but has no luck.
He removes the baby from the car, just as the authorities arrive. He comforts the baby, cradling him. Justin takes off his shirt, and places it around the baby to keep it warm. He turns around to hand the baby over to his mother, but she was no where to be found. He hands the baby over to the cops.
Justin walks back to his car in silence. He’s still shaken by the events, as he approaches his car. He prays that the woman will come back to her infant, and that she’ll be ok. He quickly gets in, and buckles up.
His cell phone is in the car. Justin doesn’t understand how his cell is returned to him, or how the woman got it into the car, it was locked.
Justin’s turns on the radio and hears a late breaking story bulletin. He was hoping that the music will calm his nerves, but the shocking news didn’t help any.
The announcer states, "A young woman, her husband, and infant were involved in a deadly car wreck, only the baby survived. The parents died instantly."
Justin swallows hard. "I saw her, how could that be?"
He hears a voice. The voice isn’t frightening, but his nerves are on high, because of the traumatic incident.
"Thank you", the voice says. "My baby will be safe now. Now, I can leave and know he’ll be taken good care of."
He tries to smile. He can’t believe he just encountered a ghost, but is happy he could help the mother be at peace, and the infant get to safety. "I would do it again." He sighs, and drives off, telling no one of his ghostly tale.
